About
Clay is a Virginia native, born and raised in the Hampton Roads region of Southeastern Virginia. His deep connection to the community has shaped both his personal values and his legal practice.
After serving in the Navy Reserves, Clay attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in literature. During this time, he taught sailing at the Norfolk Naval Station and worked as a boat builder for Hines-Farley Yachts in Suffolk—experiences that reflect his hands-on work ethic and disciplined approach to problem-solving.
Clay later completed a graduate business program at Harvard University before earning his Juris Doctor from the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University. Early in his legal career, he worked in Beijing on international transactions totaling more than one billion dollars.
Since returning to Virginia in 2008, Clay has built a respected legal practice serving individuals and families throughout the region. Today, his work focuses on family law and estate planning, helping clients navigate complex life transitions while protecting their long-term financial and personal interests.
Outside the courtroom, Clay remains active in the community and has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations supporting the arts and early childhood education. A dedicated supporter of Old Dominion University athletics, he maintains strong ties to the university and the region he proudly calls home.
